 Situation:
Latin America region was growing fast and a corporate analysis was
in place to decide invest heavily in there. To go ahead Corporate requested a
detailed picture of the market positioning of our customer in Latin
America to decide a three year investment. However due to the information limitations this study was very difficult to be done.
Business Impact:
It would be almost impossible for our customer to get this
growing opportunity window without providing the study requested by the Corporate.
Root cause:
The company was organized in a way different from the Market
research studies and this was the first time that such a complete comparison
between the company and the market was being requested in the region.
Implemented solution:
A database in MS Access with the market studies was
built. Conversion tables between our Customer product lines and geographies
and market research ones was created. The market research database was
linked through the conversion tables to the Sales History data mart (SQL
Server). A client tool in MS Excel linked to the SQL Server was created and
provided to the business analysts and managers. A one to one training was
delivered on how to navigate and analyzing (drill down, up, pivoting) the
available data.
Results and benefits:
Beyond to get a detailed comparison between
company and market with details by Products, Regions, Countries, , Range of
Values, Segments etc. it was possible to see the evolution of this market
share in 5 years and build several BCG matrixes showing graphically
where the best investment opportunities was (company growth x market
growth). The investment plan was approved, implemented and well succeed. The
Latin America executive was promoted to an worldwide position.
